The State of Hormozgan

I have published several posts from different parts of Iran. Here is a rather different one from the South near the Persian Gulf. People of Hormozgan have occupied this part of the world for thousands of years now. They are professional ship builders, have distinctive accent and looks.

A weekend market in the centre of Tehran

A young lady looking into the mirror for beauty and hope... a clergy man searching through the tinker's goods...and this is Tehran. A 200 years old city which can be hardly regarded as modern; yet through with all forms of tradition.
P.S. Women are forced to wear head scarf since 1979 (islamic) revolution.

My PhD degree

Here is a copy of my PhD degree for all those who might dare to doubt it!

P.S. stop making the mistake saying Kordan doesn't have a PhD from Oxford. No one does! Oxford doesn't issue PhD. They give DPhil. I leant this the hard way few years back when made the mistake calling a friend's DPhil a PhD; he almost strangled me.

Golestan Forest

As you have probably noticed, I have started to introduce different parts of Iran in my blog (which is turning into a photo blog gradually). Golestan is in the north near the city where my mum comes from (remember the add about Shahrood?). Golestan conservation area, including Golestan Forest, is one of the largest conservation areas in the world. There are so many people who have devoted their lives entirely to protecting this conservation land. Although it is vastly being devastated by industrialisation and the "arrogance of humansim".

The Fruhers

The 9th month in the Persian calender is the month of fire (in Persian atash). This month smells of blood. Blood of Fruhers (their name in Persian means the holly fire and also the divine royal glory). The Fruhers were murdered in cold blood in a very gruesome way that actually few people know about; but I rather not describe. They were leaders of the Nationalist Party of Iran. Darius Fruher (right) was famous for being a tall, strong chap. His murderers were so scared of him, at the age of 70, they had to send a whole unit to murder him. He was killed after hearing Parvaneh (left) screaming whilst being stabbed repeatedly. The security services later had to issue a statement and take responsibility but dissed the murderers as dissidents. All murderers have been released since.

Kurdestan

A country of old legends. Land of nobel people. A beautiful history since Medians, the first empire in its modern sense. The empire on which model Persians and Greeks, and later Persians and Romans built their societies. God save Kurdestan.

I am a "Berliner"

The beautiful autumn of Berlin and my amazing moments of love ...

Unassuming Bertolt Brecht

Next to his beloved wife Helen (Weigel) Brecht, Bertolt Brecht is resting in this unassuming grave in the corner of a quiet cemetery in the centre of (Eastern) Berlin. I was walking this beautiful cemetery when accidentally came across his resting place. I was blown away when told, its really Brecht lying here: no memorial, no extravagant headstone... of course, he remained a life-long committed Marxist.

Eating Flesh

Trying hard to prove animal based food is damaging our planet irrevocably from a logistical perspective (!?). That's because food is the single largest contrbutor to global warming. Yet another reason for NOT eating animal flesh. My conference speach was bit of a dog's dinner...but it worked.
